Cherry Brook Chimes
Hand Bell Choir
The bell choir was founded in 1982 with 3 octaves of hand bells donated in memory of loved ones and has grown over the years to 2 octaves short of five octaves of hand bells and 4 octaves of handchimes. This choir rehearses every Thursday at 7:00 beginning in late August with a listening session and concluding in mid May. They play at church services on average 10 times yearly including Music Sunday and both Christmas Eve and Easter services.
We have been lucky in the past several years to have substitute ringers for special occasions. The choir’s special events include performing for the annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical service as the only bell choir in Canton, and going out into surrounding communities, this year to the Winchester Grange, as part of our musical outreach. The music they play is written by some of the best composers and arrangers of bell music and includes hymn tune arrangements, classical pieces, newly composed songs, and some contemporary music such as songs from theatre and movies.
The choir is one of three charter member choirs of the annual hand bell mini-fest that has taken place in this area since 1984 and is still in existence with 5-6 choirs participating every year including our bell choir for many years. They have also participated in many AGEHR (American Guild of English Hand Bell Ringers) local state and regional concerts and conferences throughout the years.
