WELCOME AND ANOUNCEMENTS

PRELUDE           In Flanders Fields                     Dr. John McCrae,  arr.Jacobsen/Emerson

GATHERING PRAYER AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Eternal Spirit, within time and beyond time,
whose forms are many, whose truth is one,
wherever we are today we seek you,
even as we remember that you are everywhere.
For the blessing of all courageous ones,
      past and present,
for all noble forms of honor, sacrifice and love,
      we give thanks.
Awaken our hearts to the need of our world,
inspire us to the work of peace,
guide us into our own forms of sacrificial living,
so that in our time and place
we might be the faithful, just and loving Body of Christ.
In his name and spirit we pray, as we also say together:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
      hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
      but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
      and the glory forever.  Amen.

READING FROM SCRIPTURE       John 15:12-17, New Revised Standard Version
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. 16 You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. 17 I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.

REFLECTIONS ON MEMORIAL DAY                                                   Tim LeGeyt

SERMON                       On Ritual                                                               Rev. Brenda

HYMN                    Let There Be Peace on Earth
              Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God, our Creator, kindred all are we,
Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow:
To take each moment and live each moment, in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.
