WORDS OF GREETING
GATHERING PRAYER AND THE LORD'S PRAYER
Creator God, who gives us life,
may we know you on this day
as a deep and nurturing love,
a strong and gentle peace,
a wisdom that teaches us,
a compassion that opens us,
a grace that sustains us.
Whatever our personal needs and our common need
right now,
may we not miss this day’s beauty and blessing
that you offer to us all,
as you call us to live the way of Christ.
We gather our prayers into one prayer,
in the words Jesus has taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts
as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
and the glory forever. Amen.

SERMON If Only We Had Known
HYMN For the Beauty of the Earth
For the beauty of the earth, for the beauty of the skies;
For the love which from our birth over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise, this our hymn of grateful praise.
For the beauty of each hour of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars of light,
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
For the joy of ear and eye, for the heart and mind's delight,
for the mystic harmony linking sense to sound and sight,
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild,
Lord of all, to thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.
