PRELUDE        On Eagle's Wings                                      Michael Joncas, arr. Douglas Wagner

HYMN        O God, Our Help in Ages Past

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home.

    Under the shadow of thy throne, still may we dwell secure;
Sufficient is thine arm alone, and our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame,
From everlasting, thou art God, to endless years the same.

God of all things, all times, all creation,
help us remember today, as we gather in spirit,
that you are among us,
working in us, through us and for our sakes.
Help us to be strong for all that life is asking of us now,
to trust the power of new beginning
and to stay the course with each other in challenging times.
Teach us again how to hold each other, and our nation,
and our world, in care,
encouraging each other along the path,
contributing ourselves and our gifts to the work of love.
This we ask in Christ’s name and spirit, as we also pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine
is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.

READINGS FROM SCRIPTURE      Psalm 62:5-12, Isaiah 40:28-31

SERMON       Onward

MUSICAL INTERLUDE     Soon and Very Soon               Andrae Crouch, arr. Jack Schrader

     Joys & Concerns, Pastoral Prayer

HYMN            Like the Murmur of the Dove’s Song

Like the murmur of the dove’s song, like the challenge of her flight,
Like the vigor of the wind’s rush, like the new flame’s eager might:
Come, Holy Spirit, come.

To the members of Christ’s body, to the branches of the vine,
To the church in faith assembled, to our midst as gift and sign:
Come, Holy Spirit, come.

With the healing of division, with the ceaseless voice of prayer,
With the power to love and witness, with the peace beyond compare:
Come, Holy Spirit, come.

Friends in Christ, friends of Christ:
Because the way can be so challenging,
let us go with a spirit of encouragement.
Because life is good, even when some of it is hard,
let us go with a spirit of gratitude.
And because the world needs the gifts of faith, hope and love
that we have to give,
let us go with a spirit of commitment
to be the faithful hands of God in all things.
Go in peace, into this day and this week.  Amen.
